The Liberty 49 is an elegant long-distance cruising yacht designed by Stan C. Huntingford and built in the elegant tradition of her predecessor, the Liberty 458.
It is a yacht whose well thought out and liveable accommodation plan has received the plaudits of all who have inspected her.
She has graceful lines, unsurpassed structural integrity and exceptional directional stability. This combination, along with her spacious and well-designed interior make her an ideal cruiser and liveaboard.
The Liberty 49 offers a larger interior than the 458 and is able to provide room for the often-requested options for long distance cruising or living aboard - space for generators, washer/dryers, compressors, computers and the like.
This creative utilization of space allows for exceptional comfort down below. For instance, the Liberty 49 has large molded-in shower stalls, a microwave cabinet, and full-length hanging lockers. The attention to detail and the superb craftsmanship make this yacht a delight to own and combined with her performance capabilities, a pleasure to sail.
The uncluttered deck plan has been designed with short-handed sailing in mind; we know that our customers are generally cruising couples The mast winches are self-tailing and the turning blocks are base-mounted and are lead through triple sheet stoppers. This system provides a wide variety of sheeting and rigging options. The staysail and genoa sheet winches on the coamings are also self-tailing. Boom gallows are standard.
Aft of the cockpit are two built-in deck boxes for stowage of anchor rode and the like. The aft deck provides ample room for lounging, sunbathing and even deck chairs. A transom ladder is standard and the Liberty 49 can be ordered with or without a teak taffrail and turned posts.
Ventilation is through six stainless steel dorade vents, four opening deck hatches and 12 opening portholes, which provide excellent cross ventilation. There are also strategically placed deck prisms that provide additional below-deck lighting, creating a pleasing visual effect.
Teak decks are standard and the coach roof has molded-in non-skid. Cockpit coaming tops and seats are of flush inlaid teak. A non-skid deck instead of teak is of course available. The large flush deck forward provides excellent dinghy storage, although transom davits can be ordered if desired. A hatch to the sail locker is standard.
The standard center cockpit Liberty 49 can be modified to include an interior steering station. This option allows the skipper to get out of the elements, extending the cruising season in he northern climates. The adjustable helmsman's seat converts to an in-port swivel lounge chair. The design of the Liberty 49 accomplishes this interior steering option without the high, boxy look so commonly seen in other designs.
The Liberty 49 is another masterpiece in the Liberty line of fine yachts. We invite you to come see and appreciate her excellence of design and style first hand.
